Finally... Waterfall Green?

Mastering Cone 6 Glazes has been an incredibly inspirational book for me.

There's something about the Waterfall Brown glaze that is so attractive. Simply put, it makes my tiles look awesome. Since February, I've been working on a spectrum of colors, using the Waterfall recipe as a base, and altering the colorants.

So far, I've developed a Waterfall white, a
Waterfall gold, a gorgeous subtle Waterfall sky blue and a vivid cobalt blue. Green is the only color I haven't been able to achieve, and with this last test load, I think I'm finally on the right path. I'm approaching test #60; it's easy to get a little carried away when the results are this rewarding.

These first examples- while they're lovely, still don't have enough green in them. But the detail is lovely.

This next set is clearly more promising for the green appearance I'm trying to find.

Here are the two tests that most closely resemble what I'm trying to create. There are a few pin holes in these, I'm not sure why. But I plan on running some more tests, to see if the pinholing persists.

BTW- sorry for the double post on the ClayArt board. :)

If anyone has any recipe questions, comments and/or suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Lovely! Actually that is the blue green (robin's egg blue) that I'm trying to get. I'm also trying to create the look in Hobart Cowles Fluid Blue Green. You have inspired me to get myself in gear. Donna P.S. It would be nice if you could post your colorants.

Colorants for the light blue version are WF base recipe + 5% RIO and 1% Rutile.

In one of my earlier blog entries, there are many recipes. Scroll down to find them. :)

Good job!

These are beautiful. Are they runny and will they continue to have such amazing patterning on a vertical surface?

Do you have a specific gravity for Waterfall Brown?
Thanks for the information.

These are wonderful. Can you provided a link where the exact proportions of colorants are listed, that go along with the Waterfall base?---thanks. Michael

If anyone owns the book - Mastering Cone Six Glazes - then they will have the base recipe. Out of (huge) respect) for the authors, I won't post the base recipe. They came up with it, it's not mine to share.

But - for the green version of it - use the base recipe that will total 100 plus this:

Copper Carb - 12.0
Rutile - 1.0

I would think 12% copper carb would make it go black. Are you sure you didn't mean 2%?

I do have the Mastering Cone 6 Glazes book. Would you be so kind as to provide a link to your blog article showing the colorants that you’ve tested with the WF base? Thank you so much!!!!

You can still post the base glaze to make it easier on everyone else and at the same time give credit. You're still respecting the author of the recipe and at the same time making it easier for us without having to go and hunt and search for it!

To Anonymous who posted above:

If the authors request that their recipes aren't shared, then I'll respect that. It's pretty simple. Sorry you have "to go and hunt and search for it"
